How are the shoes so inexpensive?

Functionality is simplicity. Simplicity is affordability.

A lot of the features contributing the accepted $130+ price of most training shoes don’t do much, if anything, to make the shoes more functional. So if you remove unnecessary features you remove unnecessary cost. Combine that with a direct-to-consumer strategy that eliminates an entire layer of profit built into traditional pricing models, and you have a functional shoe that costs significantly less than the norm.

Also, as a thank you for being our very first supporters, our Kickstarter rewards are priced well below our anticipated retail price of $95.

Where are the shoes made, and why?

We produce our shoes in China for a few simple reasons. The commonly accepted reason is that producing overseas is less expensive, but the more important factor for us is that the vast majority of modern athletic footwear production knowledge and experience is in southeast Asia. This is the result of decades of overseas production from just about every brand out there. Working with our overseas development partners allows us to produce the best functioning shoe possible. An affordable price is simply a byproduct.

Why 6mm of heel drop? Why not 4mm?

This all came down to feel. We started prototypes at the more standard 4mm, but for whatever reason they just didn’t feel right (designing shoes can be weird like that.) Once we increased the heel lift to 6mm, the shoes felt like what we were used to - connected to the floor with just a bit of lift for squatting and olympic lifting.

How do I choose my color & size?

After the campaign is successfully completed, we’ll send out a survey to gather all of your information including colors and sizes.

How do sizes compare with other training shoes?

We’ve tested our samples sizes against a few of the most popular shoes on the market and have found them most comparable in sizing to a Nike Metcon. If you have sized up in the past specifically because of Morton’s Toe (where your “index” toe is longer than your big toe) consider going back down to your true size as THE 01 does not have as blunt of a toe box as some training shoes.

If you still have questions regarding sizing, please feel free to comment or send us a message with your current model and size, and we’ll do our best to provide an accurate recommendation.

If I choose a reward with multiple pairs, can I order different sizes and colors for each pair?

Yup.

Why unisex sizes?

It’s a dirty little secret within the footwear industry that a lot of shoes passed off as men’s or women’s versions of the same model are actually the exact same shoe. They’re built on the same foot shape with the same materials & patterns. The difference is simply a matter of adding or subtracting 1.5 sizes between the two. For example, a women’s 10 equals a men’s 8.5. We’re just up front about it.

Why unisex colors?

Because we believe there’s no such thing as men’s and women’s colors.

Can I exchange for a different size if mine don't fit?

Provided we have inventory of your new requested size and your shoes are unused in their original packaging (aside from an in-home trial or two), we will do everything possible to provide a size exchange.

We want you in a great fitting pair of shoes, but as a small startup with a limited budget you will be responsible for any exchange shipping charges. Sorry. Also note that we may not have your new size in your original color, but we’ll be sure to let you know your options.

If for some reason we don’t have your new size in stock, we’ll keep in contact to let you know if we anticipate being able to fulfill your exchange request.

Can I buy multiple sizes and return the shoes that don’t fit?

We will accept returns on a case-by-case basis within 30 days of fulfillment. As a fledgling little brand budgets and inventories will be tight, and we cannot guarantee we will be able to accept your return and refund your original purchase. We’ll do everything we can to make it happen, though.

Also note that like size exchanges you will be responsible for return shipping charges.

In a perfect world we’d love to accommodate every return and exchange, but we won’t make promises we can’t keep.

Why will it take so long to get my shoes?

Good things come to those who wait ;) In as seriousness, our anticipated delivery date comes down to the realities of pre-production (creating outsole molds, acquiring materials, etc.), manufacturing, and shipping. We worked with our development and production partners to ensure that our fulfillment date is realistic based on our funding goals.

That said, the more successful the campaign the more leverage we have to fast-track some steps along the way. If we’re able to speed up the fulfillment process at any point, we certainly won’t drag our feet. (We’re honestly not trying for all these puns. They’re just happening.)

Why do I have to pay for shipping?

Because we’re not Amazon.

Last updated: October 22, 2019 07:55

Are there any additional fees for international (non-US) backers?

All non-US backers are responsible for paying any customs fees, duties, and taxes due before taking final delivery of your shoes. The delivery partner in your country will contact you directly for payment of these fees if any are due.

We know it’s a hassle, and we really do wish we could cover this cost for you. The only alternative, though, was to not offer International shipping at all. We did’t think that would be fair to what is absolutely a worldwide community.

Estimated Customs Fees for 1 pair of shoes (in USD)

Russia $0.00 Australia $9.51 Switzerland $9.54 Canada $17.08 South Africa $18.91 China $19.60 Mexico $20.56 UK $23.52 Germany $24.75 Iceland $38.75 Brazil $40.43 Argentina $44.76

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
